Your estimate

Total installed budget...
Contingency to set aside...
Everything except the oven...
Oven share of the total...

Estimates only. Assumptions are listed below, and you can change every input.

The sticker price of a premium oven is only the opening number. By the time a built-in oven is sitting on a proper footing, wrapped in insulation and stone, vented above the roofline and connected to gas or stocked with wood, the total is often well above what the oven alone cost. Buyers who budget for the oven and nothing else are the ones who end up pausing the project halfway through.

This estimator simply adds the line items a real installation involves and applies a contingency percentage you control. It does not guess your local labor rates or material prices; you enter quotes or your own estimates for each line, and it shows you the total, how much you should hold back for surprises, and what share of the budget the oven actually represents.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the delivered price of the oven you are considering, kit or assembled.
  2. Fill in the base, venting, utilities and labor lines from contractor quotes or your own estimates; leave any line at zero if it does not apply.
  3. Adjust the contingency percentage and read the total budget, the cushion to hold back, and how much of the spend is the oven itself.

What the math assumes

  • The total is the plain sum of the five cost lines plus the contingency; nothing else is added behind the scenes.
  • The contingency is applied to the whole sum, including the oven, at the percentage you enter (10% unless you change it).
  • Default dollar values are placeholders to show how the tool works, not regional benchmarks; replace them with quotes for your project.
  • Permits, design fees and sales tax are not separate lines; fold them into the labor or contingency lines if they apply to you.
  • Everything except the oven is reported after contingency, so it includes the cushion.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the oven often end up as less than half of the total budget?

A built-in oven needs a load bearing base, insulation, a weatherproof finish and proper venting before it is safe to fire. Each of those is real masonry or trade work, and together they routinely rival or exceed the price of the oven.

Does this estimator include the cost of a full outdoor kitchen?

No. It covers the oven installation only. If the oven is part of a larger counter run with a grill, sink or refrigeration, budget those separately or add them to the enclosure line.

What contingency percentage is reasonable?

That depends on how firm your quotes are. Fixed price contracts on flat, accessible sites justify a small cushion; sloped lots, unknown soil or a project still in design deserve a larger one.

Is this estimate tied to any oven brand?

No. The math is the same for every brand and fuel type. Fornaluxe is an independent guide and may earn affiliate commissions on some product links, but the calculator does not favor any manufacturer.
